Metacognition

Mastering Metacognition

Understand and apply metacognition so that it benefits the whole school.

'Master Metacognition' is one of our Deep Dive Days - training designed to arm teachers with classroom ready strategies from the latest findings in the fields of cognitive and behavioural development, neuro-science and psychology. Whether you are a Thinking School or not, our Deep Dive Days are ideal CPD training for any teacher.

Workshop Description: This training will explore how understanding and applying metacognition in school can benefit both pupils and teachers. We know that one of the most important aims of education is to teach students HOW to learn - both in school and beyond. But how do we 'learn how to learn'? How do we know what we’ve learned and purposefully direct our own future learning?

Participants will come away with a clear understanding of how metacognition helps learners increase their awareness of how they are learning to become better at it. There will be opportunities to try out practical strategies and explore a range of ideas for implementation in the classroom. Participants will also have opportunities to reflect on their own learning, try out ideas and develop their own metacognitive skills.

Target Audience:  Anyone in school including teachers, teaching assistants, headteachers, leaders, pastoral teams, Senco's and/or whole school staff. Sessions can also be adapted for groups of parents or older students wanting to apply this to revision strategies.

How: Available as a whole or half day INSET, series of twilights, individual or small group consultation.
