Workshop Description: Research tells us that effective teachers are able to make thinking processes visible and explicit to learners. Broadly based on the work of Project Zero at Harvard University, this workshop will explore a number of practical ideas to promote effective thinking. These ideas allow learners to deliberately practice explicit thinking routines whilst developing a shared vocabulary and deepening understanding of thinking processes. These ideas can be used across the curriculum with learners of all ages and stages of development.
Target Audience: Schools and teachers in any phase who are seeking to explicitly improving their pupils’ thinking.
How: Available as a whole or half day INSET depending on location.

Trainer: Dr Helen Lewis. Helen is a former teacher and education adviser who now works as a Senior Lecturer in Swansea University School of Education. Her PhD focused on the development of metacognition in young learners, and she has written widely on this topic including her latest book “Teaching Creative and Critical Thinking in Schools”.
